This event is part of the 2017 RAF Trail!


Join RAF State Liaisons, Brad Frederick (MI), Jeff Russell (WI) and Mike Purpura (IL) for a fun filled weekend at beautiful North Fox Island (6Y3) in Michigan.  

Plan to stay the weekend and explore the island or just drop in for the day to say "hi" to the RAF crew.

Important Details:

  • Plan to bring your own food and drink in for the days you are staying.
  • Bring bug spray, higher deet preferred.
  • Temperature can vary greatly, plan for warm and cold conditions.
  • We have one central fire pit only for cooking and the campfire. DO NOT BRING FIREWOOD OF ANYKIND!!!!
  • There is a pit toilet or out house ( bring toilet paper).
  • Please note: there is no cell service on the island.


What kind of work needs to be done and what tools do I need?

  • Airstrip mowing
  • Brushing along the airstrip ( bring your tools and eye and ear safety protection).
  • Picking up washed up trash on the beach ( bring trash bags).
  • Pulling invasive species , spotted knapweed, on the shoreline ( bring gloves).
  • Trail work on the hiking trails ( cutting fallen trees, bring appropriate equipment and ear and eye protection).
  • Hi visibility caps,shirts or vests are recommended.


What will we do for FUN!

  • Beach walks. You can hike the entire perimeter of the 820 acre island shoreline.
  • Trail hiking.
  • Bird watching (eagles, osprey, shorebirds , gulls , terns, ducks , songbirds, etc.).
  • Swimming ( water temp permitting) water shoes suggested.
  • Fishing (wading)  insulated waders suggested Brown Trout and salmon can cruise the shoreline, smallmouth bass are possibilities also.
  • Island hopping by plane ( Beaver ,two airports, Bois Blanc , Mackinac and Drummond Islands).
