Alaska Flying

The Last Alaskans

If any of you have been watching the new series on Animal Planet, called "The Last Alaskans", filmed in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which is located in the northeast corner of Alaska, you will see Heimo Korth and his wife Edna.  My 54' 180 used to be based in Fort Yukon, Alaska, where it worked for 3 different mining companies.  It also, back in the late 80's and early 90's, flew some flights up to the Coleen River, in the eastern Brooks Range Mountains, to the Korth's gravel bar, bringing supplies to Heimo and his wife and two daughters.  Now that I am retired from Alaska Airlines, I have been able to fly out of Coldfoot, Alaska, to the east, to their cabin to see first hand where my 180's past was birthed.  Had I not been married, that would have been my choice of lifestyles to live; hunting, fishing and trapping in Bush Alaska.  Having spent a couple of months plying around the Brooks Range Mountains, I can truly say that it is fantastic country.
