I just went through this calculation and am putting in a PPonk.  I think it depends on how you want to do it.  TS is kind of a one stop shop and will handle it firewall forward.  If you have a good shop for the install, then the PPonk done by Ly-Con or Steve himself will be more bang for the buck.  If you use Ly-Con, you can do more "roll your own" mods like intake porting, 8.5:1 pistons, etc.
 would call both and talk about your needs, then make the decision.  There are a lot more PPonk's flying around that I read about. has much to read on this topic.

On a related subject, when I went to replace the IO-550 in my C-185, the question was raised by my IA as to whether the STC for the 550 being replaced would also cover the new engine, or whether I would have to purchase a new STC for the new engine.  He did some research and reviewed my STC and found that in my case the existing STC covered my airplane and all future IO-550 installations in that plane.  Good news.  He also discovered, however, that some of the IO-550 STCs on the market were for one-time engine installations.


Something to think about and perhaps watch out for.
