There is no STC for a sling seat I am aware of. They were all field approved, or not. Some were just installed and used. They are a very good mod if done correctly.
In my mind, the most important reason to have a sling seat is as a cargo net/baggage restraint. The sling seat works both ways, as a seat and as a cargo net.
To obtain approval, it could be approached as a safety of flight modification as a cargo net/baggage restraint and its use as a seat could be incidental.

You might notice the Field Approval drawings shown below are different than the pictures in that the front mount is to be attached to the rear door post, not a fabricated mount assembly. I think either way would be equivalent but attaching the seat bracket to the door post is much cleaner. Also, following the drawings, the sling seat mounts are identical but left and right side mirror images. Later-model outboard seat belt attach brackets can be used.
It should also be noted the original approval was for Wein Alaska Airlines, Inc which flew C-180s in bush Alaska back in the 1960s so it would seem the sling seats were deemed satisfactory for commercial operations at that time.
