spades, stol kit?
Author Last Post
That is the Horton Stol-craft Kit.  I have the exact same thing on my airplane and the STC.  Lowers the stall speed.  Doesn't seem to alter any other flight conditions.  Can be installed with or without Gap seals.

View/reply online       Reply to forum at AirframeIdeas@skywagons.club       Reply directly to Patrick Daniels at inke22@ymail.com Trying to figure out if my plane has a stol kit installed.   It was not put in when it was refurbished and speaking with someone over a phone he believes it has it.  Also, it has some spades on top of the wing, where the aileron and the flap meet.  What do those do for me?
The guy I was talking to says those spades are part of the stol kit.

Please help me figure it out.

Looks much like a Horton STOL kit installation.  Your paperwork, as well as Airframe Log Book should have an entry for it, and somewhere in your collection of paperwork, there should be an STC for the installation, along with an FAA Form 337.

Need to look for aileron and flap gap seals as part of the kit that may have come with the fences.

I agree with John.

Those are stall fences and are included with a couple different kits -- but not the Sportsman.

Would need pics of the top of your wings, the leading edge at the root, and a view looking down the leading edge from the tip to make a better determination.

There's nothing in your logbooks?

Hard to tell from the photos exactly what you have. The leading edge looks like it has been modified. I would guess a Horton STOL kit. The "Spades" are fences and definitely part of a kit.

Check your log books. The modification should be there.

those are not spades, they are fences and are often part of a STOL kit.

The leading edge looks like it may be a STOL conversion but I can't tell
from the photo.
