Fly-Ins

2017 King Salmon, AK Fly In
Author Last Post
For everyone who is planning to come to the Fly In, Allen and Vera have offered to host a BBQ on Friday night.  If you are thinking about coming, please reach out to me with a head count.  You can reply to this thread or send me an email directly.

Mainly, trying to get a feel for how many people to help prepare for.  As of last week, we have around 16 airplanes that have RSVP'd for the Fly In!

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Stephen

One other item to mention:  Allen's neighbors have offered a room in their house for anyone that isn't interested in camping.  I'm not sure on the price but they can provide details.  If interested, contact Steve or Dana Hyams at 907-230-5555 or 907-230-4821.

Greetings and Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

We’re about a month away from the King Salmon Fly In and I wanted to get everyone excited about the fun weekend next month and also get some information out there to help flight planning.  As a reminder, dates and information are below:

When:  June 30 – July 2, 2017

Where:  King Salmon, AK - Gilliland Strip -  58°40'50.30”N - 156°29'52.02"W

(800’ X 1,200’ Cross Strip – 6 Miles East of PAKN)

Lake Access roughly 1 mile from Gilliland Strip for Float Planes

How:  Fly In to King Salmon – Gilliland Strip for Camping (PAKN for Fuel)

Allen and Vera Gilliland have been working on adding tie down spots on their property and it would be helpful if we could get a head count on number of aircraft and people that are planning to come in.  I have included all club members that have indicated they are interested in flying in.  I may have missed a few people so feel free to forward this email on any friends that may be interested in coming.

Pending on weather cooperating, we will plan to fly out to the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, Hallo Bay and/or Bearing Sea for Bears, Volcano's, Glaciers, Beaches, and other Adventures.  We will split up the group in wheel planes and float planes.  As far as camping goes, plan to tent camp at your airplane on the strip.  For those that want to fly in on floats, the lake is about a mile from Allen’s house.  You will be able to park your float plane there, unload, and come over to camp on the strip.  The preferred procedure for pick up would be to fly over the Gilliland Strip, rock you wings, and land on the lake.  We will send someone to pick you up and bring you back to the strip to camp.

Fuel:  Local price on Av Gas is $7.80 per gallon at Kings, in Naknek and over $8.00 per gallon in King Salmon.  Allen has also offered to pick up gas if there is enough interest.  In order to do that, he would need a firm commitment and cash up front to make the purchase.  It would be a significant discount at +/- $6.25 per gallon.  If interested, please send name, tail number, and gallons wanted.  I will forward on Allen’s address where a check could be mailed.  As a disclaimer, once fuel is committed, it would be non refundable.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next month.  Please call or email with any questions and let me know if I missed anything.  My contact information is below and fly safe!

Regards,

Mike Petrie at MLJ Aircraft at Birchwood has also put them on.

Thanks for clarifying. I want to put the tank on a C185 using Form 337. Will contact Tracey

To be clear. Are you wanting to install on a Cessna 337 or onto a 180/185 using a Form 337? Tracey Vrem used to run one on his 180 so he may have the info you need.

I would love to fly in from Europe one day.
Still have the Sorensen belly tank.
It was attached when the aircraft was ferried to me on a special flight permit.
Does anyone know an A&P IA in Alaska who can put the Sorensen tank on a 337 ?
Thanks for the help
