Just a quick update on the Wrangell Park Fly-In!  We had a heck of a great time and weather was wonderful.  All total, we had 10 skywagons come by May Creek, 6 that camped the first night, 5 that camped the second night, and two that stopped by to say hello.  Allen and Vera Gilliland got the award for traveling the farthest, having made the journey from King Salmon.  We had a great time camping, cooking over an open fire, and relaxing and visiting around the camp fire!

On Saturday, we made a round robin with 4 sky wagons from May Creek to Glacier Creek to Peavine to Nizina and back to May Creek.  A few in the party made the short hop over to McCarthy and up to the old abandoned Kennicot Copper Mine while a couple of us ventured over to Paul's place at Ultima Thule Lodge to get some help from Steve and Paul on a tailwheel needing repair.  Definitely a big thanks to Paul, Steve, and the Ultima Thule Lodge for helping us out!

The weather was good, the flying was great, and the friends made were even better!  We are planning to make this an annual event around June so start marking your calendars for next year!

Here are a couple pictures and videos of the fly in.

Thanks to everyone who came out!

Jim,

Sorry to hear about your wife, give her our best!  We will miss having y'all!  We will try to get some good photos and post them on the forums!

Wish I could be there as well, but my wife's heart condition has us in a doctors office during that time. Next year hopefully. Hope to see lots of photos.

Greetings,

Hope everyone is excited for the Wrangell Park Fly-In this weekend!  Sounds like weather is going to be excellent so no excuses not to come if you can get away!  Bring the family, bring a friend, bring the dog, or just come by yourself!

While I may possibly be heading out Thursday evening, the plan is for everyone to meet up on Friday at May Creek (MYK).  For those of you that haven't been to the park before, it is roughly a 2 hour flight from Anchorage to May Creek.  I would plan to make a quick stop in Gulkana and fill up at the self service fuel pump.  That will give plenty of fuel for any playing on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  If anyone gets in a fuel bind then there are options and I plan to carry a couple fuel bags with me as well.  But again, best practice is to stop in Gulkana first.

Plan is to tent camp by our planes on the grass strip so bring your best tent and sleeping bag.  As for food and drinks, please plan to bring enough for your party.  I'm fairly certain that no one will go hungry if something gets left behind but always nice to have options.  I am bringing a grill and small coleman stove and happy to share everything I have.  There is a creek close by so if you run low on water its a short hike to re-supply.  There is a public use cabin and outhouse there as well.

I will be around tomorrow and Thursday so if anyone has any last minute questions, call me on my cell.  AT&T coverage doesn't typically work out there but Verizon sometimes does.  I have also included my satellite phone number in the event that we're already in the park with no coverage.

Here's to a great showing and safe flying!!!

Best Regards,

After meeting many of you at the Great Alaska Aviation Gathering, I'm excited about this coming June and the Fly-In!  Wanted to make sure that anyone that is interested in attending has my contact information.  We were able to talk a lot about the fly-in over the weekend but anyone that has additional questions, feel free to call, email, or post here and I will do my best to answer questions.

Let's pray for some good weather in June and excited about getting a bunch of skywagon pilots together for camping, flying, and good fun!!!

Thanks!

I'm in! Camped there last summer, will be fun.

For those of you interested in in attending our 1st Annual Alaska Fly-In, detail are below:

Who:  All International 180/185 Club Skywagon Pilots
What:  Wrangell Park Fly-In
When:  June 10 – June 12, 2016
Where:  May Creek – Wrangell-St. Elias Park, Alaska (MYK)
How:  Fly-In to May Creek Strip for a Fun Filled Weekend in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

Plan to come for the weekend and enjoy an adventure filled time with a camp out at May Creek Strip.  May Creek is a grass strip, roughly 2,700’ in length, with a park service cabin and mail cabin on the south end.  Tent camping is welcome and preferred.  We will plan to make a trip to nearby McCarthy, with an option to hike up to Kennicott Copper Mine and Root Glacier.  For those that have never been there before, it is a trip back in time!

Additionally, we will make a flight around the park and for those comfortable on the smaller strips, a stop by the Nizina River and Glacier.  For those interested in more details, please contact Stephen Ratcliff at 907.433.9738 or email at stephenratcliff@hotmail.com.

Thanks and look forward to the Fly-In!
