How do I get rid of the help gadget?
Author Last Post

Wow. I haven’t even read that section of the Administrator manual yet! I’m still trying to figure out how to make the web site more user friendly of which I consider the Page Tools Widget an important part!

Thanks Richard. I did not know that.

But it also goes to show you just how detailed the Club Express platform documentation is about such things. When people start to look through the documentation and read the instructions on how to use the platform it is amazing what you learn and how simple it becomes to leverage. Remember, this is a new system for all of us. We all need to learn some new tricks!

It kind of reminds me of when I got my Garmin Aera 560 and tried to start using its weather systems without first reading the instructions. I was not that successful, had no clue what I was doing, and became frustrated with it. After spending some time educating myself about its features I am now very comfortable with it and know how to use it properly.

What amazes me, and I mean this sincerely to all (ie: nobody take offence), is that some of our members have very complex communication, navigation, auto pilot, and weather tracking systems in their airplane and they seem to do ok with them. Yet our web site seems to be a challenge! I am sure that when you implemented your new com/nav/weather/auto pilot you had to spend some time learning how to use it. No less is expected of you on the new web site.

My recommendation is that the first thing you do is go to your Member Profile page.

Once on your Member Profile page please watch a video and open the User Guide, just like you would do with a new piece of equipment in your airplane.

As Richard has just demonstrated much can be learned by reading the instruction manual.

On page 33 of the "Administrator and User Manual (V 6.41)",   there is an explanation of the tool that Club Express calls the "PAGE TOOLS WIDGET"... which you are calling the Help Gadget.

According to the manual:

The Page Tools Widget will retain its position for up to 7 days if you drag it off to
the side of the browser window. Note however that this is done via a browser
cookie so the saved position may be different on the public side of the website
vs. after you have logged in as a member (because the domain names are
different.) Just move it a second time and you’ll be all set.

Apparently  the tool will revert to its "normal" position after a week.   And given the other information about the Widget, since it is browser-cookie dependent, (and not User Profile dependent), if you use a different browser on your computer, the Widget will be back again.  Or, if you clear the cookies for that particular browser, or if you use a different computer, the Widget will return.

If I turn it off for you I have to turn it off for everyone.

I find it very helpful. It was designed in particular to provide “context sensitive help”. The ? provides help that is specific to the web page you are on and the functions and features that web page provides. It was also meant so that people with vision difficulties can easily increase or decrease the font size. It also provides a very easy way to print out the web page you are on if you need to.

If it is in your way just click on the top of it and drag it to the side of the screen out of the way. If you drag it far enough of to the right of the screen it will disappear and no longer be in your screen view. Simple solution.

I just tested this and it works fine.
