Fuel Stops

Sonora, Texas (KSOA)
Author Last Post
Anyone travelling along I-10 about 175 miles west of San Antonio needing a stop for the night and/or a good meal should consider landing at Sonora. The airport has a NDB approach, free tiedowns, and is maintained well by the city. The friendly airport manager lives on the airport next to the FBO building. Fuel is a little more expensive than some other airports ($3.76 on 2/21/2007) but the real reason to stop would be the Sutton Co. Steak House and Days Inn motel that are just across the fence from the airport. There is a gate to walk thru. The steak house has excellent food of all kinds, not just steaks, but Mexican, catfish, chicken, burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc and is open for breakfast and lunch until 2pm and dinner from 5pm.

The picture shows the motel and steak house from the FBO, probably 400 yards.
